GA Pet Food Partners, Bretherton, UK

A Pet Food Partners operates one of the UK’s largest dedicated pet food manufacturing complexes, and this commission involved structural engineering design for new industrial buildings and infrastructure at their Bretherton site in Lancashire. The project encompassed new structures housing production lines and ancillary buildings, alongside hardstanding areas engineered to withstand the sustained loading demands of continuous heavy manufacturing and logistics operations on a live industrial campus. DBSW led the full structural design and construction documentation, demonstrating the practice’s capability across complex manufacturing sector work at significant scale.

Substructure and Underground Car Park, A Coruña, Spain

A below-ground reinforced concrete structure in A Coruña comprising a multi-level underground car park with associated substructure works serving a mixed-use development in the urban centre of the Galician capital. Below-ground construction in this location presented specific challenges around groundwater management, temporary and permanent retaining wall design, and the careful structural interface with surrounding existing buildings. DBSW led the structural engineering of the below-ground works, covering earth retention design, suspended and ground bearing floor systems, and full coordination with the above-ground structural scheme.

Pirelli Tyres, Carlisle, UK

An extension to the Pirelli tyre manufacturing plant in Carlisle – one of the largest tyre production facilities in Europe – requiring structural design to accommodate heavy industrial process loads within a large-span steel-framed building integrated with the existing operational facility. The engineering scope included coordination with substantial mechanical and electrical plant installations, overhead crane loadings, and industrial floor slab design suited to continuous heavy-duty manufacturing operations with minimal tolerance for settlement or cracking. Structural engineering was delivered as part of the Curtins team, covering detailed design of the steel superstructure and the ground-bearing slab elements for the extended production floor.

Stables and Milk Production Facilities, A Coruña, Spain

Agricultural and light industrial facilities in A Coruña designed to house stabling for livestock alongside operational milk production spaces, with the structural requirements typical of working agricultural infrastructure: clear-span layouts, robust floor loadings suited to animal husbandry, and durable construction details capable of withstanding a demanding operational environment. This early commission reflects DBSW’s engagement with the full breadth of structural engineering practice, from large-scale urban regeneration and public infrastructure to specialist agricultural construction at the working farm scale. DBSW provided full structural engineering services for the design and production of construction documentation for these facilities.

Greggs Distribution Centre, Enfield, UK

A large distribution and logistics facility for Greggs, one of the UK’s largest food-on-the-go retailers, delivering a high-bay warehousing and distribution operation at their Enfield site in north London to support the company’s national supply chain. The structural scheme comprised a long-span steel portal frame with extensive hardstanding aprons and HGV loading bays designed to accommodate the operational demands of a high-frequency food logistics environment. Structural engineering was delivered as part of the Rigby & Partners team, covering portal frame design and specification of the heavy-duty ground-bearing slab for the logistics floor.
